Our History

The St. Holland Missionary Baptist Church was organized on June 8, 1889 under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Albert Evans.  During its formative years the church purchased three different plots of land 6 miles south of Navasota in Grimes County.  The church experienced growth and the development of various ministries.

 

After Rev. Evans, the church elected Rev. West Brooks, who was later succeeded by Rev. Neal.

 

On August 6, 1949, another plot of land, 3.84 acres was purchased from Mr. Herman Finke.  This plot of land is currently the St. Holland Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Rev. Hayward Smith was elected Pastor of St. Holland in 1955 and served for 18 years.  During Pastor Smith’s Pastorate, Sunday School and Morning Worship were held by-monthly on first and third Sundays.

 

 

On March 12, 1956, 2.7 acres of land was purchased from the Navasota Independent School District.

 

Following Rev. Hayward Smith, St. Holland Baptist Church elected Rev. L. C. Jones as Pastor.  He served as Pastor from January 14, 1973 until 1997.  Under Pastor Jones’ leadership, Rev. Donald Ray Sargent became Assistant Pastor.  During Pastor Jones’ leadership, various officers were appointed as deacons and a church secretary was elected.  St. Holland experienced growth and underwent extensive renovations and development.  The church building was expanded; new seating, carpet, lighting, paneling, central air and heat and indoor bathrooms were installed.

 

In January of 1998, the church elected Rev. Derrick Watson as Pastor.  The church experienced growth to the membership and its boards.  Deacons were James Harris, Chairman, Albert Frear, George West, Rolando West, David Birdwell, A.J. Ethel, James Steptoe, Leroy Lipscomb and Ricky Hogue who transferred from 1st Baptist Church in Richards, Texas.

 

Because of growth, the church decided to train various men to fill the office of deacons.  They were Brutus Jones, Eugene Harris, Marvin Wesley, Tommy Moore, and Rueben Ethel.

 

During Pastor Watson’s administration, various boards, auxiliaries and ministries were established.

 

Trustees were James Harris, Albert Frear, George West, Sis. Alfreda Harris and Sis. Elmary Wells.  Treasurer was Deacon James Harris, Assistant Treasurer was Sis. Ruth Wells.

 

The church choir experienced phenomenal growth and purchased choir robes under the direction of Bro. Brutus Jones, the Mass Choir President.  Sis. Chloe Jones was President of the Youth Choir.  Other auxiliaries were:

 Usher Board: Sis. Sinatra Steptoe, President

    Sis. Shirley Menifee, Vice President

 

 Brotherhood: Deacon James Steptoe until August 2000 with

    Deacon James Harris interceding him.

 

 Mission:  Sis. Elmary Wells until 2001, succeeded by Sis. Arvis West

 

 Sunday School: Deacon George West, Superintendent;

    Sis. Eula West, Secretary

 

 Pastor’s Aide: Sis. Anna Brown, President, succeeded by Sis. Hattie Wells

 

Under Pastor Watson’s leadership, a new church edifice was erected.  The edifice houses a sanctuary with 400-500 seating capacity, pastor’s study, baptismal, cafeteria, comfort room, usher and nursery room and four restrooms.

 

After Rev. Watson resigned, the church elected Rev. Mark Falls as Pastor.  Under Rev. Falls’ leadership, the following ministries were established:

  Drill Team Ministry

  Master Training Ministry

  Five Loaves and Two Fish Ministry

  Praise Dance Ministry

  Praise Team Ministry

  Radio Ministry

  RAPP Ministry

 

Under Rev. Falls’ leadership, Deacon Rolando West acknowledged his call to the ministry.   He preached his first sermon on November 14, 2004.  Other accomplishments under Pastor Falls’ leadership were:

  The installation of new curtains and blinds

  New sidewalks

  Participation in the Annual National Baptist Convention and

  Participation in the Annual Inspire Conference

 

Rev.  Falls served as Pastor until May 2005.

 

In June 2005, Pastor Harvey M. Walker, Senior Pastor of St. Luke First Missionary Baptist Church Worship Center of Houston, Texas became the interim Pastor.  Under Pastor Walker’s leadership, various ministries were started including:

  Community Bible Study

  Intercessory Prayer

  Praise Team

  S.W.A.T. (Soul Winning Action Team)

  Women’s Ministry

 

For the first time in the history of the church, Sunday Worship was held at 8:00 a.m. with Sunday School following.

 

In July 2005, Rev. Harvey Walker became the Pastor of St, Holland Missionary Baptist Church.

 

In October 2006, a Pastor’s Aide Committee was formed with Bro. Maurice H. Wells, Sr., President; Deacon Elbert Steptoe, Vice President; and Sis. Alfreda Harris, Secretary.

 

In April 2007, Rev. Oscar Myles became the Assistant Pastor of the St. Holland Missionary Baptist Church.

 

In March 2008, under the leadership of Pastor Harvey Walker, the name of the church was changed from St. Holland Missionary Baptist Church to The Crossing Community Church; One Church – Four Locations.

 

In November 2008, a Teacher and Facilitator Training Institute was held to prepare leaders for Sunday School which was renamed to Coffee at the Crossing.

 

In January 2009, Coffee at the Crossing (Sunday School) began at 9:15 a.m. and Sunday Morning Worship began at 10:15 a.m.

 

In June 2009, under the leadership of Pastor Harvey Walker, new church furnishings and new carpeting were installed.

 

In August 2009, nine new stained glass windows were installed.  The Crossing Community Church family experienced growth both physically and spiritually; and sought to continue its rich heritage to be a church that is more than a church, but a Family.

 

In February 2010, under the leadership of Pastor Harvey Walker and the direction of Minister Luetta Walker, a new ministry called I.M.P.A.C.T (Impacting Millennium People According to Christ’s Teaching) was initiated. This ministry was held at the Progressive Outreach Center on Thursday nights.  Classes were for ages 4 - adults.

 

In 2011, F.O.C.U.S. Women Ministry for all four locations began tele-conference calling.  Three different classes via teleconferencing were held every first Monday of the month for one hour.  This ministry experienced growth in callers from several states outside of Texas.

 

In July 2011, Rev. Eric Williams became the Campus Pastor at the Crossing Community Church of Navasota.

 

In January 2012, Rev. Justin Edwards came to the Crossing Campus and in February 2012 he became the Campus Pastor.

 

Bible Study began on every other Wednesday nights in January 2012 and then became weekly in May 2012.

 

In July 2012, the IMPACT Ministry moved to their new location at the Carver Learning Center on South LaSalle street in Navasota.  This new location provided for four (4) class room spaces.

 

July 2012, the church initiated children's church which was lead by Rev. and Sister Anthony Hill.

 

In February 2013, Pastor Harvey M. Walker resigned as Senior Pastor of St. Holland MBC.  The church elected a Pastoral Search Committee tasked with the responsibility of searching for a new Pastor.

 

Rev. Todderick Johnson was elected as Pastor in May 2013 and was installed on August 18, 2013.  Rev. Johnson resigned as Pastor in December 2013.  A Pastoral Search Committee was elected to begin the search for a new Pastor.

 

In April 2014, the church name was officially changed through the Office of the State of Texas from The Crossing Community Church back to it’s original name of St. Holland Missionary Baptist Church.

 

In July 2014, Rev. Corey Thomas was elected as Pastor of St. Holland MBC.  Rev. Thomas was installed as Pastor on August 31, 2014.

 

Under Pastor Thomas’ leadership, the church experienced growth in its membership.  New worship opportunities included:

 M.O.S.H Ministry (Men of St. Holland Ministry)

 Seasoned Saints Ministry

 Y. A.M. (Young Adult Ministry)

 Soul Saving Saturday

 W.O.W. (Worship on Wednesdays)

 

Rev. Thomas resigned as Pastor on November 13, 2016.

 

On June 1, 2017, the church elected Rev. Sheldon Hadnot as Pastor Elect. Rev. Hadnot was installed as Pastor on August 20, 2017,

 

Under the leadership of Pastor Hadnot:

  • New church logo
  • St. Holland MBC first website was formed.
  • A virtual phone installed
  • Social media strengthened by adding graphics, to St. Holland’s Facebook page and adding Instagram, and Twitter accounts
  • Job descriptions established for paid staff
  • Youth Department reinstated.
  • Church programs revamped
  • Church banners revamped
  • First Leadership training seminar
  • Weekly intercessory prayer
